somatic therapy in BOULDER, Co
Healing is more than an intellectual exercise.
Stop trying to "think" your way out of stress. Learn to listen to your body’s wisdom.
Why your body holds the key
Insight is a good start, but it usually isn't enough to change how you actually feel. You can understand why you’re anxious and still feel your heart race every time you walk into a meeting or a difficult conversation.
Trauma and chronic stress don't just live in your memories; they live in your nervous system. As a somatic therapist, I help you notice the signals your body is sending. We don't just talk about your pain; we work with the tension, the breath, and the subtle "felt-sense" to help your system let go of survival patterns that no longer serve you.
“80% or more of health conditions are autonomic nervous system events.”
What shifts in our work
When we work somatically, you feel the change in your muscles, your reactions, and your daily life.
You find safety again: Chronic tension begins to soften. You learn that "feeling" can be a safe, even pleasurable experience rather than something to avoid.
You gain a "gap": Instead of reacting automatically when you’re triggered, you find a moment of space where you can actually choose how to respond.
Your story changes: When your nervous system settles, the old story of being "stuck" naturally fades, making room for more freedom and joy.
The Integrated Touch
Because I am also a Licensed Massage and Bodywork Therapist (LMBT) and yoga teacher, I have a deep map of your physical and energetic anatomy.
For clients in the Boulder area, I can also incorporate Therapeutic Touch: a subtle, clothed form of bodywork that helps your system process emotions that words can't quite reach.
FAQS about Somatic Therapy
-
It’s a body-centered approach. We track physical sensations (like a tight chest or a lump in your throat) to help your nervous system release stored stress and trauma.
-
Not necessarily. We might use mindful movement or breath, but most of the work is simply noticing what is happening in your body while we talk.
-
No. While I am a licensed bodyworker, this is a clinical mental health process. Any touch used is intentional, professional, and fully integrated into our emotional work.
-
Many people feel a "settling" in their chest or gut after just a few sessions, though changing deep-seated patterns takes consistent practice.
-
Yes. Somatic work is highly effective. I guide you to track your own "felt-sense" from wherever you are in Colorado.
